The day unfolded as such:
I woke up luxuriously at around 11:3o, came inside, and had a brownie for breakfast/lunch. That's right, a brownie. It was sitting on the counter and it looked delicious, so I heated that puppy up and had it with a cool, refreshing glass of milk.
Then, I decided that I needed a new wallet. And I did. My old wallet was one of my mom's old ones that she gave to me when I was... I don't know, in the one-digits someplace, regardless very old. It was all worn-out and it crumbled to a sort of sandy consistency when you touched it. So I took some leftover money from Christmas and bought a lovely new leather wallet. I was torn, though; on the way over I heard a boppin' new song on the radio and I thought to myself, "Hey, this song is good... HEY, this sounds like Franz Ferdinand, one of my favorite artists... HEY, it IS Franz Ferdinand! And apparently they have a new CD out. WHAT?!" So I was having a lot of trouble deciding whether to get the wallet or the CD. But in the end I figured a wallet is more practical and if somebody were to get me a gift for my upcoming birthday (cough wheeze wheeze), better a can't-go-wrong CD than a can-go-very-wrong wallet.
I came back home for a while and cleaned my room a bit. That sounds like a drag but I actually love cleaning my room when I've set enough time aside to do it. The before and after is refreshing. Buuut I soon grew bored of that and decided to spend the 10 bucks' credit I had for the mall.
I drove to the mall, and two of my friends were waiting around outside. One of them was one of my really good friends from middle school whom I hadn't seen in ages, and the other was a more recent friend whom I'd met in high school. I went inside with them and met two MORE friends; one from middle school and one from high school. Don't you just love paralellism? And the funny thing was, they ALL worked at the mall's Robek's (smoothie joint cropping up everywhere). So I got to catch up with them for a few, and I got a free smoothie. That was a good part about my day. The friends I mean. The smoothie didn't hurt either.
I wandered around the mall looking for the perfect item to blow my 10 bucks on. Borders was having a massive sale with a bunch of things costing $1 and other things 90% off... I shelled out 75 cents for an adorable pen holder. It was a great deal and the holder greatly compliments the decorum of my room, so laugh all you want, but you'll feel like a boob when you're standing in line to pay 7 dollars for YOUR pen holder.
With the 10 dollars I ended up buying two pairs of sunglasses from Charlotte Russe. Really nice glasses; chic-looking. One pair had Ed Hardy-esque designs on the sides, and the other was clear wayfarers with black zebra stripes. I know wayfarers are over-popularized at the moment, but I do like the style a lot. And I know it always sounds stupid to say things like this, but I WAS into them before they got stupidly popular. I don't have photo documentation or anything so you're just going to have to trust me. But if you don't I completely understand.

Like these, only more subtle and less angsty.
After I got home I watched "Mr. Deeds" and started making a collage out of cut-outs from old magazines I'd acquired over the past months. It was just a fun little project that I felt like doing. It took me through Mr. Deeds and RENT (hadn't watched it in a couple years, felt like it, dig the music, sue me) to finish my collage, but it came out pretty neat.
Oh yeah, and somewhere in the mix I baked a chocolate cake.
Pen holders, collages, baking cakes... how old am I?
On the whole, it was a really great day. It was relaxing and I enjoyed myself. However, this Valentine's Day plays 4th banana because
1st place: had a boyfriend
2nd place: had a boyfriend
3rd place: V-day was a big deal in elementary school and we always got a bunch of cards and stuff; chances are at least one of those days was better than this day.
Yeah... I think Valentine's Day is the only day where, "This isn't fun because I don't have man," is a valid excuse for being a party pooper. It's not as though yesterday was a waste because I didn't have a special guy to share it with, but it does sort of envelop the intent of Valentine's Day, doesn't it?
Today has been peaceful. It's cloudy out, which is my favorite weather. I'm going to spend some of today writing. I've on-and-off been reading Writing Down the Bones: Freeing The Writer Within by Natalie Goldberg. A friend gave it to me a while ago, and I find it helps me slit the daisy from my throat (sorry, inside joke between the book and me, too bad you don't get it). Tally-ho!
